Donation logistics to fight novel coronavirus in Hubei China

On 30th January 2020 (Geneva time) the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) as a Public Health Emergency of International Concerns (PHEIC).   As of 5 Feb. 2020, according to the updated data from the Chinese National Health Commission, the novel coronavirus epidemic has impacted more than 52,000 Chinese people, of whom more than 28,000 have been confirmed and over 24,000 people were suspected suffering the novel coronavirus pneumonia. This epidemic has so far claimed 563 lives in China within several weeks, of which 97.5% of the reported cases are from Hubei province (data source: read more).

Despite all the great efforts and strong measures from the Chinese government at all levels, there is still significant work to be done, and the scarcity of disposable medical supplies is appalling. Hubei province of China requires more support and engagement from more people and institutions, and a pragmatic and concrete way to help is through providing medical supplies to meet the urgent needs.

The most wanted medical suppliers include masks (ordinary and medical), surgical gloves, hand sanitizer, medical protective clothing, medical goggles and so on. For more list of them, please see the attached table (please refer to the picture).

With the support of the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation, we hereby call for actions to donate medical supplies so as to help Hubei China to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus. We will process the donation registration and logistics with Hubei Chinese recipients. All donated medical supplies will be sent to Hubei via Hubei Provincial Charity Federation which collects local needs for such goods from hospitals and communities. This Federation will provide the whole list of recipients’ institutions and work together with us to arrange for local logistics for shipments. The donor is normally expected to send donated medical supplies to a local address which will be provided by the Hubei Provincial Charity Federation once the donation is registered and confirmed.
